what is an empathy card?
After my mom died, my mailbox filled with sympathy cards. Stacks of them arrived in those first stunned weeks when time folded in on itself and the days blurred into visits, logistics, food left on the porch. I was grateful for every single one. People, some who I hadn't spoken to in years, had taken the time to choose a card, to write a message, to send it across distance. And then the funeral ended.

sharing wisdom in community

There is more wisdom in this community than one person could ever hold alone. If you are someone who sits with grief, love, rage, rest, celebration, or any of the other seasons of being human, we would be honored to hear your voice.

We welcome pieces for any of our journal threads—
letters from the liminal, on this season of being, words, rewritten, or rituals in the wild—especially if you’re writing from lived experience as a griever, caregiver, clinician, chaplain, organizer, artist, or friend.

If you feel a tug to write, you don’t have to be “a writer.” You only need a story, a moment, or a practice you’re willing to offer with honesty and care.

To apply to be a guest writer, share a brief note about who you are, which thread you feel most connected to, and a few lines about the piece you’d like to write.
